It taught me that sometimes, people do things that embarrass you or put you in a weird spot but that doesn’t mean they have bad intentions. I forget the exact situation, but the teacher didn’t want her to wear a hat in school and seemed like the enemy until she found out what had happened. I’ll never forget the book where she cuts her own hair with a pair of scissors - it made me decide not to do the same lol. She gets in trouble, yes, but she faces consequences for it. Reading those books helped me develop a love of reading. I totally see where you’re coming from, but the pros outweigh the cons in my opinion! books are at a certain reading level, and they won’t be allowed to read them independently until they reach that level! My kids are pushing themselves to work during independent reading because they know that Junie B. I even had a parent buy her student a set of Junie B. books from the library, and our read aloud is one of the few times that over 90% of my class is engaged. It’s a small price to pay for my students to get excited about reading. I’ve never had a student do something outlandish or be rude and claim that it is okay because Junie B. Those choices shouldn’t be replicated by my students. I make sure that they understand that yes, she is funny but sometimes the choices she makes are not good ones. is doing her usual antics - being rude, not making good choices, etc - I have a conversation with my class about it. to my kids daily! I edit the “stupid” and “dumb” kinds of words as I read it aloud. ![]() r/ECEProfessionals: early childhood education Share and discuss educational techologies that can support and improve teaching and learning.
